Lizz Winstead

Not funny enough. Dated. Lazy. Feminist slant without explaining where it was coming from or why. She had some ready to do local humor from the stupid runoff elections that were recently voted down to the farmers market, which she says she is a fan of, which was packed with girls covered with ink on Saturday morning, and didn’t touch it. Just the same bull about how cool Burlington purports to be which it isn’t, though it isn’t bad, so long as you don’t really ask what is going on.

No, I am not one of those who doesn’t think women cannot be funny. She ran this a rap VPR on Friday, in addition to a 7 Days piece, so I expected to hear more edgy feminist stuff, not just some simple dissing of Sarah Palin. Women comics can be very funny. Margaret Chu is funny and she is a Korean. Lizz isn’t funny enough to sell whatever she is selling, political or gender. Who could have missed the humor in this weeks election returns where women around the country were nominated for important positions. Republicans have put woeful women characters on the ballot in an effort to promote an anti-feminist backlash, don’t you think. Exploit this. Women’s humor should transcend diapers and tampons.

Missed the CEO of BP attending a Yacht race. Now that’s funny. The gate crashers getting a TV show. That’s funny. A woman is playing professional baseball. Humm.

Woke up this morning and couldn’t remember one joke she told. Most of what she tried to tell me lacked the venom of good political satire. I watch Stewart and Maher. I read a daily newspaper, Huntington, Slate, Harpers, Atlantic, and at least two books at a time. I like political cartoons. Struggle with Time and Newsweek. I Google News during the day. I am informed. She didn’t say anything I couldn’t say, given the time. Could be I’ve heard much of it before?

I laughed, like I would laugh if she were at the dinner table, restaurant or in someone’s home. Not good enough to laugh at for whatever it cost. Not able to share one good line, assuming someone would ask or the opportunity would come up to start a conversation with anyone who would care what I did last night. Burlington had Lewis Black. Most of the audience didn’t laugh. Maybe she toned it down. I attended one of George Carlin’s last shows. People sitting near to us walked out. Could she have gotten a message? Have to wait for Shay Totten to report in Seven Days.

On the other hand, I had a good time. I walked to the Flynn Space with Sharon. Didn’t have to arrive early, because no one was there for the 9:30 show. Could have a shot of vodka during her performance. Sat in the second row of tables. Knew at least two people at the show and introduced myself to the other two at the table, one of whom took my e-mail number, but I don’t expect her to contact me to see the picture I took of her. Knew the woman at the next table from the Courts. She sat with a person who wasn’t her husband. Not that I would have talked with her if he was there or with him, but I certainly wasn’t going to speak with her if she was with guy I didn’t know even if it could have been a relative.
