Patrick Leahy for Vermont

Not saying that Senator Leahy ain’t good for Vermont. But I just don’t understand the electoral process anymore. It takes money to run campaigns for the Senate. Leahy doesn’t need money for his campaign. No way that Vermonters won’t return him to the Senate. So why would Senator Schumer give him $20,000 even though his reelection is not in jeopardy?

His campaign manager says that you can never take any election for granted, a sign that he will use the money to promote his candidacy in the green mountain state. Not so. He then shipped $25,000 to Harry Reid–net cost to him, $5,000. Being fair to Senator Schumer, no piker be he, Reid got a $250,000 from the NY Dem who would stand to be the majority leader if Reid loses and the Dems retain a majority. Oh well. These guys play a brand of ball not taught in high school civics classes, assuming they still teach high school civics.
