11 Street Diner, South Beach Has Sol
This lovely woman served us at the 11th Street Diner in South Beach. At first, she said no when I asked to make her portrait. She left with some dishes and returned. “I don’t like having my picture taken, she said, like many others, especially women, “but for some reason I will let you.”
A recent rejection almost ruined a workshop I attended, a mistake I won’t make again. No, I will keep asking and shooting, but no more workshops, especially with beginning photographers. They suck your time and the leaders time and they think they know more than they do.
She wrote out her e-mail address and I gave her a card. Her name was Sol, like it rhymes with soul. In Hebrew, I thought of Sol, peace. Sent her the image and she wrote back: “I really love the image, was a special moment for me. Thank you!!” Made my day.

Erase the Past
This typewriter eraser by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen sits outside the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach FL. Don’t you wish there was an eraser that could change your past?

Mother and Child Reunion
Here is Sharon with our bear, Theodore, who she has had since she was a baby. I adopted him when we were married; Judge Archie Gorfinkel signed the papers. He has offered love and support many times and has had surgery to repair the ravages of aging. If anything happened to Theodore, Sharon would probably sit shiva.
So, how many kids have friends like Theodore whom they rely on in times of trouble? Look at the kids being shielded from the pain of the fires in CA or the devastation in Syria or Yemen. When grabbing for straws or the last vestiges of your homestead, you probably don’t reach for the family bear.
Think about making a donation of a bear or 200.
