Only in Boston, if you are making a quick run for a bottle or a beer, do you say “going to the packie.” In North Carolina they call it the ABC store, and in Pennsylvania, it’s the “state store.” Michigan residents make runs to the “party store.” And in Massachusetts, the liquor store is known as the “packie,” short for “package store.”
Bostonians used to be so straight, they couldn’t admit they drank. Probably changed during prohibition, aided by Joe Kennedy who produced Jack, Teddy and the terrible RFK, Jr. out of Bobby. Now, you can buy a bottle and a dream.
