Lorin Duckman at the Garrison Art Center

Not often you get to hype your own show. And, don’t give me any grief about my self-portrait on the announcement. It goes with the show.

The show features images of people whose dress and demeanor don’t necessarily reflect who they are, except for where I found them. My camera goes into their space for only a second. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we don’t. I don’t pose the people and I don’t like them to make faces. My image of myself was captured the same way. Yeh, they all have a story, but that is not what its about. Look at my face. Do I have a story? I be no different from any of my subjects.

A number of shots submitted for review didn’t make it into the show. Not sure what will be on the wall. Very proud to have a show in a trusted, respected gallery. As an artist, I can see my work as it is shot and printed. But to see it on a wall in a space I don’t control while people I don’t know come to view it, some of whom may hate it, as they have at several workshops I attended, takes me to a new place as a creative person.

Please come to the show. I am thinking about what I want to say about the assembled pieces. Seeing them hung will bring them into a whole other dimension. I’ll understand them better and I will understand myself better.
